Mogoditshane Water Conservation Project

BSHD has a keen interest in environmental and water issues, particularly in light of climate change. With water and electricity shortages becoming increasingly common in Botswana, conserving the limited resources has proven to be a significant challenge, especially with many people adhering to their traditional consumption habits. BSHD NGO is therefore committed to making a substantial contribution to raising awareness, fostering a change in mindset, and implementing strategic solutions aimed at encouraging responsible resource management. The organization firmly believes that conservation cannot solely rest on the shoulders of the government; it requires collective action to improve our way of life and ensure a safe and sustainable world for future generations. Thus, the plan is to empower and motivate residents to actively participate in addressing these issues.

The first step will be conducting a household water consumption survey. Upon completion, the responses will provide insights into consumption behaviors related to water and electricity usage. The objective is to gauge citizens’ perspectives on water issues and identify areas for improvement. Based on the findings, the NGO will propose practical and affordable measures to conserve the available resources. Following a two-month period, a second audit will be conducted to assess any improvements.

In addition, BSHD NGO will collaborate with DWA to organize a panel discussion, where citizens will be educated about the significant impact of small lifestyle changes on reducing resource consumption. The discussion will take place on August 25th at the DWA Kgotla. Furthermore, the NGO will recommend cost-effective technological solutions to help individuals reduce their usage.

To incentivize participation and promote active engagement, a water reduction competition will be launched immediately after the initial survey. Households that demonstrate the most significant reduction in their bills will be recognized and rewarded for their efforts.
