Eligibility and Entry rules
BSHD seeks entries that share a domestic tourism experience (true or fictional); Think culture and heritage, urban tourism, people, and highlights adventure tourism (bike, walks, guides) etc. Avoid the love theme unless you have an exceptional love story to tell.
Entry is open to all.
Entrants must be aged 12 years and above.
Entries must be made by the writer, an exception will be made for those below the age of 18.
Submissions should be sent to bshdgaborone@gmail.com with the subject “Share Botswana/Title of Short Story”
The deadline for receipt of entries is March 03, 2019 (12 midnight). Winners will be announced on March 24, 2019. Workshops will be on April 4, 2019. Mentorship will run from April 4-30, 2019. The award ceremony and book launch will be on May 30, 2019.
Only one short story entry per writer may be submitted. 3 poems per writer should be submitted.
The story or poem must be the entrant’s own work.
The story or poem must be original and should not have been previously published anywhere in full or in part, or on any media platform.
All entries must be in English.
Short story entries must be 1 200 words minimum, 2000 words maximum. All three poems should not exceed 3 pages max.
Entries should be attached as Microsoft Word documents.
A short bio of not more than 150 words should be added.
The bio should include the author’s full name, nationality, email address and phone number, as well as how they chose their setting and how/where they got their information about the location.
All entries should be submitted in Times New Roman 12 point font and double line spacing.
Entrants agree as a condition of entry that the prize organisers may publicise the fact that a story has been entered or shortlisted for the Prize.
Worldwide copyright of each story or poem remains with the writer. BSHD will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning and shortlisted stories and poems in a compilation, on their web and social sites, and for promotional purposes.
The overall winners and runners-up will be expected by BSHD and its Partners to take part in publicity activities where possible, including social media.
